The Derby Run


About This Activity


The Third Annual Derby Run in memory of Justin Lopes will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018. The event is a 5k Run/Walk and will begin at Terry Sanford High School, Justin's alma mater.  It will proceed through the scenic Haymount area, including through the campus of Fayetteville Technical Community College and finish at the Terry Sanford High School football field.  Timing is provided.  Net proceeds from the event will go to support the Child Advocacy Center in Fayetteville, Cy's World Foundation, and the Justin Richard Lopes Memorial Scholarship of Cumberland Community Foundation.

For those who wish to give, charitable gifts may be made directly to the Justin Richard Lopes Memorial Scholarship through the Cumberland Community Foundation.

We will also be accepting gently worn athletic shoes for Water Step, a charitable organization for healthy drinking water in needed areas of the world.

Dogs are welcome for this event however they must  be on a leash.  

Participants are encouraged to wear their best Derby Run hat and/or costume.  Prizes will be awarded for the best costumed runners, best decorated strollers, runners with pets, male and female top 3 finishers in each age category and all under 13 runners receive a finisher’s medal.   There are two entry categories - Individual and family.  


Event details and schedule


Package pick up:  Friday May 18, 2018 from 5-7 pm at Terry Sanford High School.  Saturday May 19, 2018 7:00 am - 8:15 am at the race site.

Late Registration:  7:00 am - 8:00 am

Run Starts:  8:30 am

Awards Ceremony:  9:30 am

Course:  Flat

Parking:  Terry Sanford High School
