Davey is a former high school and collegiate cross country runner. He has run 5k's and 8k's for years, but is now interested in higher mileage runs and races. He is even looking to eventually make his way up to ultras. He prefers trails and likes to explore different area's in and around Fayetteville. His favorite place to run in town is on the mountain bike trails of Smith Lake, and his overall favorite trail, that's decently close by, is the Campbell Creek Loop trail at Raven Rock State Park in Lillington. Other than running, he enjoys creating music, taking pictures, and going on hikes.
Jack Brunecz is currently the head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach at Methodist University where he has been for the past year.
Prior to that, he was the head cross country coach and track and field coach at Pine Forest High School for over 5 years, where the school saw its cross country team advance to the state championship for the first time in 27 years.
Jack still runs competitively himself and is still striving to not only improve upon his personal bests in all distances but he is always trying to help his student-athletes and, other local runners, get the most out of their running as well. He also currently holds a USATF Level 2 certification in the endurance events.
Russell’s favorite aspect of coaching is being able to work with runners of all ability levels across multiple distances. His experience includes all race types and distances from road to trail and 5k to 60 mile distances.
“I came up as 100% self-taught, I didn’t really have many people around who I could look to for solid advice about my running. After years of experience on the road and the trail, I’m looking to help other runners avoid the mistakes that I made in my own training, and help them become the best runner they can be, while still enjoying the sport that we all love.”
Coach Russell is looking forward to working with all of our participants on a one on one basis to learn about their personal journey and help each and every member meet or exceed their expectations for this program and beyond.
Russell lives locally in Fayetteville and enjoys spending time with his wife and two dogs. While not running, he just wants to be outside and you can find him mountain biking, road biking, kayaking, or spending time with his family at the beach.
